[She had actually been thinking about the situation. How much she missed New York, her family, her school, everything. How much she missed with Maya, who didn't deserve anything that happened to her. There was a lot to take in. But that's why she was determined to make the best of the situation, too, and why her current thoughts were on "what kinds of fun things can we do?"]
A lot. I'm trying to think of something to do for Maya.
[Well, there's that. He's certain she'll be better at it than he was. Maya's just as important to him as she is to her, even if it won't be responded to at quite the same level. It's something he accepted, a different kind of love, but the issue with loving two girls equally is wanting the happiness for both of them.]
Be there for her. You're better than that than anyone. So what about you?
[She's the ray of sunshine for their little group of friends. Even when she feels awful, she still tries to make sure everyone around her is happy. It's what she thrives on, and what she intends to keep doing here.]
I was going to be there for her already. And I'll be okay, too.
[Not great or fantastic or anything like usual, but she'll be okay, and she really wants to believe she'll be okay. She's more than aware of the monster changes and what's happened to Maya and the whole Fog God thing, but that's about it.]
I know you were. [ He says it simply. He never had any doubt Riley would be there for Maya. Or Maya for Riley. Or him for either of them. They'd known each other for tool long for anything like that to happen. He believed that. Even if things has changed, and now to even worse degrees.]
[But it pains him to hear the words 'I'll be okay' because that's not usual Riley answer and he doesn't quiteee look at her. Nods, but doesn't address the simple works, before thinking and shaking his head this time.
I'm... Going to figure out as much as I can. We still don't know as much as we should [Because he's concerned about Maya goes unsaid. If she figures it out, good, but if not he won't say anything because he doesn't want to worry her anymore than he has to, either.]
[She shifts over, sitting on the windowsill that's taken the place of her bay window for now, and pats the spot next to her.]
Have you figured out anything about the Fog God? I'm worried about Maya. I know she's said a lot of good stuff about the Fog God, but something about it still feels really weird.
[Well, then, he certainly doesn't have to take much time to think about sitting down. But he folds one leg over the others' knee and taps against it a moment before shaking his head. He's got ideas, but he's not sure on them enough to say anything enough to worry Riley.]
People seem to have different ideas and there's a lot of them like Maya who think they're good and love us. But I don't think someone who loves you would force you to change or take you away from your family without asking. [It's sometimes like Maya sees it as better, but he knows she doesn't. She admitted that even things like unicorns wouldn't make this a decent place for Riley. At least he could concentrate on mysteries and figuring things out, but that would go awry when the first fog rolled in.]
[You guys and your Riley Protection Committee!! Just wait until she finds things out because there are a lot of people who probably aren't on the same page as Farkle or Maya. Either way, though.]
I don't think so, either. I know it makes Maya happy, and it was there when she really needed it, but... I don't like how it feels, either. I don't think we'd get kidnapped or forced to change by someone that actually loves us... but Maya was here by herself for so long.
[Which means she didn't get the love she'd normally get back in New York.]
[Which makes little sense in the grand scheme of things-- But most
things regarding this place makes very little sense. After all, they could
debate it was out of love they were brought here, in that case. Farkle
didn't think that was so, though, maybe it was about conflict. Since most
normal people wouldn't be okay with turning into monsters.]
I'm not so sure she is happy. She was alone, maybe she just attached to the
thing that gave her attention even if it was bad. [Since apparently
she did have a boyfriend who treated her like trash or something.]
[She frowns, thinking hard. She loves the idea of love, but how much is real leaves a lot of doubt in her mind because there's no choice. There's a difference between Cory and Topanga and a god turning them all into monsters.]
She acts like she's happy, but I don't know... I want to think she's happy. There's a lot that's not happy about this place, though. I wonder if there's a good way for us to learn more about the Fog God? We have a lot of studying to do.
[He could continue to disagree with her on that, but it's not the point. And if there's any way to make Riley worry less then it wouldn't be bringing up all the reasons she wasn't happy. Why this was bad and they all won't be, she'd learn soon enough even if she was trying hard not to think about it right now. Him, meanwhile, it was all he could think about. They'd all have so much time to research, learn, try to fix things before it got to them, too.
And then what? He breathes out.] You worry about keeping Maya safe, all right? I mean-- I will, too... but I can handle studying the Fog God. See if there's any resemblance to any of the other Pantheons. [Because, if there is, he doesn't want Riley to find out about all of those. ] One of us needs to stick around Maya as much as we can, though.
[And she's better for that and they need each other. He knew he was important-- Canada, but Riley and Maya were better with helping each other. Sometimes he was just the awkward kid who didn't really understand things he should.]
[She frowns—she's fine with studying too, but she also knows that that's basically Farkle's forte. He's a genius. The smartest person she knows.]
Yeah... I guess so. I'll keep an eye on Maya. I wonder—do you think I could get a bunch of people together and have a party? A good party where everyone can have fun no matter what they are. That'd be a good distraction for her, wouldn't it?
[And she's already planning and thinking things through.]
[It's not that he doesn't know she can. For all of her silliness, they'd matched As for as long as he could remember. Riley was smart even if she didn't necessarily show it, but she's also a ray of sunshine that needs to be protected. At least-- for as long as they could manage. And a part of him wasn't sure how long that would last here of all places.]
Yeah, you should try it. [He smiles a small smile that's often reserved for Riley, even if he's not so sure that'll solve anything. Not with how things were around here.] Maybe you can find a nice place away from-- Well, maybe you'll find a nice place. [Because he doesn't want to say the town Maya's very adamant about or anything, personal suspicions and all.]
[Well, even with the worst happening she would still find a way to be a ray of sunshine because that's her, but either way it's true. They're both smart, but their expertise is still widely different and while Farkle knows all of that book stuff, and while she knows some of it too, she's people smart.]
There's gotta be a nice place around here. There can't not be a nice place, right? Maya'll get something fun and so will everyone else.
I don't know, but if anyone can find one it's you. [ Because sometimes he believes in Riley and Maya more than himself. And he knows if there's a bright spot to find in something Riley will. ] And while you two do that I'll crack the case.
[He makes a face at that, because certainly a lot can go wrong. But
he doubts Riley needs that reminder, nor does he want to say anything to
crush the margin of hope.]
Let's focus on what can go right. Which is a lot, because it's us.
And we always manage in the end.
[And those times may pass soon, is something Farkle's aware of.
Because this is a situation that's foreign. He and Maya have already
disagreed about things-- She wanted to protect him, he was adamant on
equally doing the same for her. In proving that maybe things weren't all
that sunny.]
Of course not. It's the secret of life. People change people, and it's
those people that change the situations.
[Things are never going to be quite sunny here in Ryslig, but Riley will be damned if she doesn't try to change that.]
Looks like we really get to put that to the test here, doesn't it.
[It's a statement. New York was one thing, and they certainly put it to the test there, but those circumstances were never quite as extraordinary as these.]
[It's said with a tightening of his jaw and he doesn't quite look at her. He sees all the possibilities, good and bad, laid out before them and it seems like bad is more invasive here than anything but he can't. Go into that. Won't. So he tries to believe, but Riley's here now and she's better at that then any of them. So maybe going back to logic was better.]
idk it's fun
